A lawyer’s wig, circa 1900, attributed to Ravenscroft, London, with remains of original labels, in good condition, contained in a black painted tin case indistinctly inscribed in gilt for ‘Hon. A. Lyttelton Q.C.’, and to the underside of the lid ‘Ravenscroft, Law, Wig & Robe Makers, Lincolns Inn, London’, with a turned section mahogany stand.
Alfred Lyttelton (1857-1913) was a politician and sportsman who excelled at both football and cricket, he was the first man to represent England at both sports, and was arguably the pre-eminent sportsman of his generation. He served as Secretary of State for the Colonies between 1903 and 1905.
