April’s Item of the Month is a Large English School Oil Portrait, circa 1805, in the manner of George Dawe.
A portrait of an elegant young mother, her three children and dog, one child showing a butterfly, in a river landscape with a bridge beyond presumably the family seat, unsigned, oils on canvas, the gilt ‘frame’ mouldings mounted onto the front edges of the canvas/ stretchers only.
Provenance: Christie’s London, 24th July 1987, Lot 199, catalogued as ‘Circle of John Russell, R. A.’; thence Private London Collection.
